Today is St Paddy's Day, and it, as with all things Irish, pleases me very much so. Sure, so I'm not normally Irish, but on St Patrick's Day everyone is! And because I don't drink beer, I'm breaking out me green tea cartons.

Desmond and the AI Time of Year.

It comes the time of year again, when Idol drives me into lending some random American contestant my support for approximately three months. Of course, on occasion the obsession support carries on beyond the run of the show -- Carrie Underwood, and Michael John, hello? -- and the hope is to find someone like that to root for in this season.

This year, two contestants stole my heart: Lee Dewyze, whose deep, warm and gravelly voice first made me a fan in Hollywood week (in just 15 seconds); and Siobhan Magnus, who is as quirky as I like, with an awesome Irish name to boot.

The best in the competition? I'm not sure -- Lee kinda wrecked Chasing Cars a little. Still, I like liking the ones who don't have the biggest fan base, but are pretty good nonetheless. (In other words, down with Andrew and Didi!)
